Welcome Back: First Day of School

Welcome Back!!

The first day of school brings on so many mixed emotions, which include excitement and even possibly nervousness. While the teachers and staff are excited to meet their students and start a new school year, we understand that some parents and students may be worried about what to expect the first day of school. Below you will find some information to help you navigate the first day of school.

Morning/Drop Off

  • This year Berkeley School will open it's doors on Wednesday, September 6th.

All students should arrive between 8:20 am and 8:30 am.

Kindergarten students and parents are invited to attend a Kindergarten Breakfast, from 8:30 to 9:30. Students and parents should come to the front door (closest to the flag pole on Bloomfield Ave), where they will be given their classroom assignments and then escorted to our lower cafeteria for the Kindergarten Breakfast.

Students in grades 1 through 6 should line up on the back playground. Teacher lines will be clearly marked with the name of their teacher and the corresponding grade level. At 8:30 classroom teachers will arrive to greet students and escort them into the building.

if you are a returning student and do not remember your class placement (classroom teacher), please note that there will be staff members available to assist you at both the Bloomfield Ave playground entrance and Berkeley Place entrance.

All new students should report to the main entrance on Bloomfield Ave., marked by balloons, for assistance.

Returning Berkeley students who received free and reduced lunch the previous year will receive lunch, however, a new lunch application must be completed. These forms were mailed to you over the summer. Please ensure you return the completed forms ASAP.

New students should bring a healthy lunch. Unfortunately, there are no reheating devices available for student usage.

End of Day Procedures

Students are dismissed at 3:20 pm. parking can be a bit difficult,, so please arrive earlier to find a place to park.

6th and 5th grade students are dismissed from the main entrance (Bloomfield Ave/closest to flag pole)

4th and 3rd grade students are dismissed from the playground opposite the jungle gym.

2nd and 1st grade students are dismissed from the playground near the jungle gym.

Kindergarten students are dismissed from the Multi-purpose room doors (Bloomfield Ave, near the staff parking lot). Each teacher will dismiss from one of the three doors.

If your child is being picked up by someone other than a parent, please send a note to their teacher with the name of the person and a number where you may be reached.

We are excited to welcome each of you on Wednesday, September 6, 2017!

We look forward to a very successful and productive 2017-2018 school year!

Dr. Natashia Baxter
